BLOG A Facelift for an Old Favorite - Sanctuary Stanley’s Camp

Those who are familiar with the classic, rustic style of Sanctuary Stanley’s Camp will be happy to know that the recent refurb has done nothing to mar the authentic southern African safari experiences you may have enjoyed here. To the contrary, these upgrades have enhanced the feel of the camp by making it even more eco-friendly.

During April 2018, 10 brand-new luxury canvas tents were installed at this prime spot within a 260,000-acre private concession in the Okavango Delta in northern Botswana. The new tents leave only a feather-light impression on their surroundings, while the recently added solar farm adds convenience without a trace of a carbon foot print.

Named after the explorer, Henry Stanley, this camp has always recaptured the thrill of the old-world safari and has now managed to add a touch of classic elegance to these inimitable experiences.

Sustainably designed to leave minimal footprint

The new accommodations are larger and smarter than ever before, each boasting a private viewing deck of the floodplains. The new eco-friendly furnishings were handpicked by local advisors to capture the essence of these wild spaces using local materials. The décor reflects the pale warmth of the savannah with touches of wood, grass and natural fibres. A compact gym, yoga bag, minibar and coffee station complete the picture.

Extended, private views over your surroundings provide the opportunity to view passing giraffe, antelope and zebra right from your bed. The new central tent comprises an Explorer lounge modelled on the popular orientation room at Sanctuary Chief’s Camp and the outdoor bar is on hand to quench your thirst on hot Botswana days.

Mealtimes are something to remember at Stanley’s camp. Apart from dining in the central area, you can have lunch with the elephants in the great outdoors, celebrate a special dinner under the stars or enjoy a water lunch in the shallows of the delta’s cool waters.

Activities abound at Stanley’s camp

Daily game walks and drives will take you to the stomping grounds of 4 of the Big 5 species – elephant, lion, buffalo and rhino, while night drives reveal leopards emerging from their daytime hiding spots.

Helicopter flips will astound you as you swoop low over the vast habitats of the Okavango Delta, while Mokoro trips immerse you in the watery wonderland that defines this part of the world.

Embark on unique non-intrusive elephant experiences where you can interact closely with partially-habituated, hand-reared African elephants. Taking a walk with these enormous gentle beasts is an experience that you will never forget and totally at their discretion. These elephants are also involved in a vitally important educational program which enables school children to meet them and learn to appreciate the value of this fragile species.

When you stay at Stanley’s Camp, there’s no chance of bumping into hordes of tourists, this concession is restricted to Sanctuary’s game vehicles only and the camp is only accessible via charter flight from Maun, Kasane, or nearby Chief’s camp.

Call us to book your first trip to the new, as-amazing-as-ever Stanley’s Camp, or to add it your stay at Chief’s Camp.
