BLOG Cape Canopy Tours

Cape Canopy Tours offers a new and exceptionally beautiful zipline canopy tour only an hour out of Cape Town.

The zipline adventure can be experienced in the Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve, a previously inaccessible and pristine part of a World Heritage Site. This is an area of exceptional natural beauty and the zipline adventure will take you right into the heart of the scenic landscape, past trickling and cascading waterfalls and through several exquisite valleys.

Good to know

  • Canopy Tours are an interesting and educational experience about the local nature and geology
  • 2 guides accompany each small group, from the first tree to the last
  • The tour includes 13 platforms, 11 slides and one swing bridge
  • The adventure includes a safety briefing and strict safety standards are followed
  • Included in the tour is a 4 x 4 trip into the mountains and a light lunch
  • The adventure lasts about 4 hours

Need to know

  • A reasonable level of fitness is required as the adventure includes a 1km (2/3 of a mile) mountain hike.
  • Although the cables can support a few tons of weight, 120kg (264.5lbs) is the limit for comfortable wearing of the safety harness. However, a visitor weighing over 120kg (264.5lbs) but in good shape should still fit the harness comfortably.
  • Regrettably participation when pregnant is not permitted.

Aside from the beauty that you will see all around you, the surrounding area offers a host of other adrenalin activities, most of which can be arranged from the nearby town of Hermanus.

Things to do nearby

Hermanus is the official Whale Watching Capital of the World! It is also a bustling tourism hub filled with accommodation options, restaurants, upmarket shops, festivals, and markets.

For wine enthusiasts there are 15 wine estates, some excellent restaurants, and numerous award-winning wines in the surrounding Hemel-en-Aarde valley. Beer drinkers can head off to Stanford, a few kilometers outside Hermanus, where they can sample premium craft beers at the Birkenhead Estate & Brewery, which has both a microbrewery and a winery.

Boat based whale watching trips can be arranged in and arround Hermanus. Although boats may approach no closer than 50m (164ft), frequently the curious whales come right up to the boats. This is an experience never to be forgotten.

Many operators offer Shark Cage Diving in nearby Gansbaai. For those wishing to get up close to a great white shark, this is the place to do it.

Walker Bay sea kayaking trips offer tours to see cape fur seals, penguins, cormorants, other sea birds and marine mammals, with no kayak experience necessary.

For nature-lovers, adventure enthusiasts and for those wishing to experience new, thrilling and beautiful travel experiences, the zipline canopy tour is hard to beat.
