BLOG Cape Town serves up a Barrel of Laughs in the Summer

Romance is served up in dollops at all the best restaurants in Cape town during the month of love. Simple sundowners, perfect picnics, starry-eyed sunset cruises and all the most romantic activities you can dream of can be found in the Mother City, while the romantic wine-lovers can raise their glasses to the fermented grape with a variety of summer celebrations.

The wine estates and farms surrounding Cape Town work hard all year to harvest the fruits of the vine in summer and celebrate their efforts. That makes February a good time to include the Mother City in your southern African safari.

Here’s where you can let your hair down at these special occasions dotted all around the city.

Grande Provence Harvest Festival

There’s so much fun to be had in Franschhoek on Saturday 23 February. The proceedings kick off with wine stomping to the beat of a Kaapse Klopse band, followed by a harvest table of delicious farm-to-table fare. Cellar tours and wine tastings are up for grabs too.

Tractor rides, lawn games, face painting and a jumping castle will keep the kids out of trouble, while adults mellow out to the tunes of a live band in the lush gardens of the estate.

Vasco Prix Du Cap and Cape Town Prawn Festival 2019

Try a new take on surf and turf at Kenilworth Race course on 24 February. Here you can indulge in prawns by the kilo, find wines and the chance to watch your favorite spring over the finish line first.

If that wasn’t enough to lure you away from Cape Town’s wonderful beaches, there are some great prizes up for grabs at this premier event too.

Constantia Fresh Food and Wine Festival 2019

If you aren’t a fan of prawns or punting, you can head to Buitenverwachting in Constantia instead.

Here you’ll get to sample over 200 wines picked for their fresh character and meals prepared by some of the country’s best chefs, including Peter Tempelhoff and Glen Foxcroft Williams.

Stellenbosch Wine Festival 2019

Yet another alternative for this weekend takes place in the beautiful and historic town of Stellenbosch. Held at the Coetzenburg Sports Grounds, this is South Africa’s oldest wine festival and brings together 100s of local wines from all over Stellenbosch.

You’re sure to find a few familiar award-winning brands up for grabs, but there’s also a chance to discover a new favorite among the many boutique wineries in attendance.

What are you waiting for, get into party mode and start planning your last-minute trip to Cape Town this February. We’re happy to help you with any aspect of your southern African safari, get in touch now.
