Cape Town will capture your imagination with its creative food options wherever you choose to dine, but Crofter’s Kitchen takes it to a whole new level. This intimate dining experience is offered by prior reservation only and is easily combined with a tour of the Cape Point during your Southern African safari.
Getting to Crofter’s Kitchen
Be sure to head off to see the scenery along Chapmans Peak Drive, Cape Point and the penguins early, if you want to catch the first session at 12h30. The entire experience takes about an hour, but you are free to linger for longer if you like.
Crofter’s Kitchen is located in the private Noordhoek home of internationally acclaimed chef, Nicky Gibbs, who has catered for the likes of the Rolling Stones and Red-Hot Chilli Peppers. You need to book at least 24 hours in advance for this five-star rock star experience, but space is limited, so the sooner, the better.
At this intimate dining establishment, you can tailor your own menu or go with the flow, pick up a couple of bottles of Rose before you arrive or indulge in the flavorsome teas on offer.
Unique in Every Way
Apart from the novelty of eating food crafted by the hands that fed these super celebrities, Crofter’s is exceptional in its use of only locally-sourced elements. Chef Nicky either grows her own produce, forages in the surroundings for ingredients or buys it from the nearest supplier.
You can count on ingesting only the freshest, most sustainable food when you dine at Crofters. What’s more you have the privilege of interacting with this acclaimed personality throughout your meal. Chef Nicky will plate the dishes in front of you, explaining their origins and how they work together. You even get to watch her at work in the kitchen if you prefer.
Then there are the views, the perfect accompaniment to that first glass of wine or tea. Chef Nicky’s home looks out over the flat, green expanses of Noordhoek all the way to the ocean.
What to Expect
The ‘whimsical tasting menu’ depends on what’s in season or at its prime during the time of your visit, but most menus go something like this:
- A welcome bite of something crisp and light with homemade Kombucha
- Garden harvested tomatoes with Pepe cheese from the farm down the road
- Porcini broth garnished with fynbos from the surrounding hills
- Fresh tuna whipped from the ocean that morning
- A sweet, chocolatey dessert with fresh fruit
Crofter’s Kitchen is open every week day from 12h30 and on Saturdays for brunch. The venue also caters for intimate private celebrations for up to 16 people. If you want to experience a true taste of the Cape, get in touch to book the Cape Peninsula leg of your southern African safari today.
