Service and accommodation even better than before
Garonga Safari Camp and Little Garonga are exclusive camps situated in the greater Makalali Conservancy, west of the Kruger National Park. This year marked the 20th year of operations at Garonga. It also marked a period of major refurbishment for the lodge.
As this is a fly-in experience, light aircraft flights from both Nelspruit Airport (MQP) and Phalaborwa (PHW), can be arranged.
Accommodation
Garonga Safari Camp is an exclusive 12-bed camp, while Little Garonga offers three en-suite, thatched and air-conditioned suites.
The camp recently underwent a 3-month refurbishment and makeover, transforming the look and feel with clean lines, modern colors and beautiful furnishings. Importantly however it has remained in keeping with the unhurried, personal bushveld experience that Garonga has always offered.
Staff Training
As part of the upgrade, the staff too has enjoyed intensive training.
- The safari Guides have all been on a year-long training program to perfect their tracking skills and now have the latest equipment available to them.
- Head Chef, Reineth had a spell at The Taj Hotel, Cape Town, Hogs Head Restaurant and Spier Hotel.
- Recently promoted Manager of Little Garonga, Robert, up skilled at the Taj Hotel, The President, and Spier.
- Executive Chef Trainer, Lee-Ann, has revolutionized the Garonga dining expertise and will visit several times a year to ensure that the high standard of cuisine experienced at Garonga, is maintained.
The results speak for themselves with service levels that are higher than ever before, and a menu that is exquisite in flavor and superb in presentation.
The Garonga “soul” experience
A major focus of the Garonga experience has always been one of relaxation, unwinding and rejuvenating through time spent appreciating the beautiful surrounds, and experiencing the natural order of nature while game viewing. Owner Bernie has invested many years creating the “soul” of Garonga for guests to enjoy and was one of the first to introduce alternate bush activities.
The recent refurbishment has been sensitive to this heart of Garonga. The newly revamped lodge feels fresh, modern and eco-friendly, while maintaining that exceptional away-from-it-all feel, and blending perfectly with the surrounding bush.
Sleep-outs, Bush Baths and Pampering
The activities on offer at Garonga include a sleep-out, a bush bath, and revitalizing pampering.
- The sleep-out offers guests the chance to spend a night ‘camping’ out in the wild, far away from the lodge, in the comfort they would expect at Garonga.
- The bush bath at the lodge is an experience all of its own, affording guests the opportunity to watch the sun set over the river from the luxury of a warm bath.
- Massages and aromatherapy treatments can be enjoyed in a thatched outdoor venue where guests can relax to the soothing sounds of the wild. This is pampering in the heart of nature.
A visit to Garonga is so much more than your average safari, and one that can’t be hurried. It is a unique bush experience that will leave you feeling thoroughly restored and inspired by nature.
