Arabella Near Cape Town
While there’s unlikely to be a spare moment during the Cape Town leg of your South African trip, it is worth setting aside a day to try out the golf course at Arabella.
Arabella is located at Kleinmond, just 31km from the Mother City. Here you will enjoy your round against a backdrop of the Kogelberg Mountain, Bot River Lagoon, and wild fynbos.
This 18-hole championship course consistently features on ‘best of’ lists and is considered one of the most picturesque in the country. The course was designed by Peter Matkovich, a leading South African course designer, and has entertained the likes of Gary Player, Ernie Els and Jack Niklaus.
Fancourt on the Garden Route
At Fancourt you get to choose between 3 different golf courses – Montagu, the Links and Outeniqua. Of these, the Links has taken the top spot in Golf Digest’s ‘Best South African courses’ once again, with the other two courses in the top 15.
All of these courses are immaculately conditioned, with glorious views over the Outeniqua Mountains and numerous water features.
Zimbali – KwaZulu-Natal North Coast
Zimbali is one of the country’s most acclaimed courses with its tropical landscaping and gorgeous views over the Indian Ocean. The 18-hole Tom Weiskopf designed course is enjoyed by golfers from all over the world.
Leopard Creek in Mpumalanga
This magnificent course is located on the banks of the Crocodile River overlooking the Kruger National Park. Designed by Gary Player, the course offers an exciting challenge with clever use of water on many of the holes.
Skukuza in the Kruger National Park
Originally built for staff members, this quirky 9-hole course is now open to the public and is located close to the Kruger National Park’s main rest camp – Skukuza.
What this golf course lacks in stature and status it certainly makes up for in charm. There are few other places in the world where your game may be interrupted by a herd of antelope or a troop of baboons.
