The Shots You Simply Have to Take During Your Southern African Safari

BLOG The Shots You Simply Have to Take During Your Southern African Safari

It’s not only professional photographers who get trigger-happy during a southern African safari. Photographs are the best way to reminisce about your travels and then there are also Facebook and Insta followers that must be ‘fed’.

Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls is always going to be the number one natural attraction to capture on film during your visit to Zimbabwe or Zambia, but there are plenty of other prime spots. Don’t miss the chance to capture these enigmatic scenes during your visit to the Falls.

The Main Falls

This is one of the most photographed places in southern Africa. As you walk through the rainforest, this massive body of water announces its presence with an almighty roar. Capture its best side from the Main Falls Viewpoint where you can see a full 150m by 93m drop of water in all its glory.

The Statue of David Livingstone

Record the steely gaze of the statue which commemorates this great explorer gazing out towards Devil’s Cataract. It’s one of the Falls best-known sites and a fitting tribute to this adventurous soul.

Danger Point

This rocky promontory at viewpoint 14 is one of the best places to capture the way the river splits and the magnificent geology of the Falls during the dry season. Approach carefully though, it’s not called Danger Point for nothing.

The Victoria Falls Bridge

Whether you choose to photograph this massive structure from above, from viewpoint 15 or from the bridge itself you simply must include it in your photographic wish list for Zimbabwe. This amazing feat of engineering signifies the hopes and dreams of Cecil John Rhodes and was once an important link between Zimbabwe and Zambia.

On a busy day, you’ll also be able to capture dramatic shots of bungee jumpers and bridge swingers in action.

Lunar Rainbow

Capturing this natural phenomenon is going to take some specialized photographic equipment if you want to get it right. You’ll also need to take a guided tour in the dark to see the ‘’moonbow’’ which is usually only visible during a full moon.

Wildlife and Safaris

With two wildlife sanctuaries along its borders, Victoria Falls is also a wonderful place to indulge in some wildlife photography. These can be self-guided events or enjoyed as part of a photographic safari from luxury lodges along the banks of the Zambezi. Further afield, you can fire away at the big five at Hwange National Park, Matobo National Park, Mana Pools and Matusadona National Park, among others.

Personalized Photographic Journeys

For a specialized photographic expedition, Pangolin tours offers tailor made vehicles and boats for excursions around Victoria Falls, Chobe and the Okavango Delta. During these tours you will have the benefit of an experienced tutor to show you the ropes as well as the use of top equipment during your trip.
