A visit to the Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) in Namibia is a wonderful way to spend some time with the world’s fastest felines during your southern African safari, while at the same time ensuring that generations to come can continue to do so in future.
Giving the cheetah a chance
The CCF center is just the place to start putting your good intentions to the test. This non-profit organization operates from Otjiwarongo, about 3 hours from Windhoek, and has set the bar internationally as far as cheetah research is concerned.
From here they reach out to thousands of farmers, students and online supporters; educating them about the welfare of this seriously endangered species. It’s all play in the name of work for compassionate visitors to the CCF center though, where you can treat yourself to a range of memorable activities in the name of conservation every day from 8 to 5.
- Guided Tours
One of the center’s charismatic volunteers will lead you on a journey of discovery, describing the amazing things that the dedicated folk of CCF get up to, followed by a meander among the intriguing displays at the Cheetah Museum.
- Cheetah Feeding
Learn more at the educational presentation on the lifestyle of the cheetah and view feeding time for the resident cheetahs.
- Cheetah Runs
Thrill to the sight of these speedsters blazing around a custom-made lure course which shows off their pace and agility in epic detail.
- Cheetah Drives
Take advantage of great photo opportunities on a drive among the female cheetahs in their private enclosure, or head out on a guided drive through CCF's Bellebenno game camp to see the cats in a more natural environment.
- Game Drives
Venture out with an expert guide to spot some of the indigenous game species found in among the open savannah surrounding the center.
- Gift Shop
Pick up some souvenirs or gifts at the onsite store (also available online), where all the proceeds from a range of DVDs, books, handmade crafts and branded merchandise go towards the continued care for the animals of the conservation center.
Bring your cheetah experience at the CCF to a relaxing conclusion with a fresh meal and revitalizing drink at The Café overlooking wonderful views over the scenic Waterberg Plateau.
Apart from paying the entry fees for these activities, which makes a direct contribution to the fund, there are other hands-on opportunities available for conservation-conscious travelers such as direct donations, volunteering or interning at the CCF, or raising funds and awareness on your return home.
